Raising Awareness, Saving Lives
At Slow Is Pro, we believe safer boating begins with three core principles: awareness, preparedness and mentorship. These values create a culture where mariners stay alert, ready, and continually learning and helping one another. As we work to strengthen safety across our waters, we’re also building systems that promote shared responsibility — ensuring our boating community holds itself to higher standards of conduct and care.
As a fiscally sponsored project of Sea Corps Maritime, a registered 501(c)(3), Slow Is Pro is more than a campaign — it’s a movement for cultural change in the yachting and boating world. Our mission is to educate, equip and empower marine communities through emergency action sheets, awareness campaigns and our accountability systems — all with the goal of protecting boaters, swimmers, marine life and coastal communities alike.

"Let's change the culture together"
This mission is deeply personal. It was born from unimaginable loss—the tragic passing of my fiancé, Captain Stephen L. Cross Jr., who was struck by a speeding boat in a mooring field. Stephen was a passionate mariner who was a creator of core memories, but also believed that true seamanship meant putting safety first. His favorite saying, “Slow is Pro,” wasn’t just words—it was a way of life. Through this nonprofit, we honor his legacy by promoting safer practices at sea, raising awareness, and ensuring that every mariner returns home safely. Let’s change the culture together—one mindful moment at a time.
